AlfaView

WHAT IS alfaview?

AlfaView is a video conferencing tool, that has an explicit focus on data protection and following European data regulations.
Companies and organisations benefit from the fact that AlfaView has a “room concept”, so it is a virtual illustration of an office, in which you can create multiple meeting rooms with or without special purposes. For example, a general meeting room, a special room for spontanous 1-on-1-consultation, a social room, the human resources department’s office etc. For every room and meeting, a public or private invitation can be created.

EXAMPLES

AlfaView can be used in qualification classes, for individual consultation, as well as team meetings. It can be set up as a fully remote meeting or in a hybrid setting, when some participants can meet in person, whereas other participants can’t or don’t want to.

"The virtual representation of an office supports communication and cooperation within the organization, as you can 'drop in' on other colleagues flexibly and spontaneously."

Microsoft Excel

WHAT IS Mircosoft Excel?

Microsoft Excel as a spreadsheet application is able to process a huge amount of data. It is very difficult to describe this tool due to it’s innummerable functions. An example could be to support clients with learning difficulties in jobs where they have to process data, in this instance it t can help to put a smooth process in place for processing this data.

EXAMPLES

For example if a person working in a post office struggles to sort letters depending on the receiver’s name (names beginning with A – E go to box 1, F-I go to box 2…), a spreadsheet can be prepared, where the client only has to type in the receiver’s name, and the spreadsheets indicate the box where the letters should go.

Another example:
A spreadsheet can help to keep track of something, for example the stock level of office material. n client could receive automated feedback once the number of available pens has fallen to a certain level and the client would then be expected to order new pens.

"Microsoft Excel can help clients with tasks like decision making or keeping an overview, where these tasks are based on data and data processing. Although there are endless amounts of tutorials on the internet, beginners need a low-threshold, job coaching-specific introduction to encourage staff to use Excel as a resource for supporting clients."

FURTHER INFORMATIONS

The most convenient, but also most expensive setting is to run Microsoft Office / Excel with the paid Desktop version.

Microsoft offers a free browser-based version of it’s MS Office package for everyone, who registers with a Microsoft account. The Android and iOS versions are free as well on devices with a small size. Therefore the usability is limited.

Ready 4 Work

WHAT IS ready4work?

Ready 4 Work is an app to facilitate access to employment for people with additional support needs. Through 54 different situations recorded with professional actors, the app teaches users how to solve the most common situations related to work responsibilities, personal image and social relationships at work.

EXAMPLES

As a teaching tool it helps us to teach our participants how to solve common situations and improve the following:

1) job responsibilities in an office, such as: wearing appropriate clothing, admitting mistakes, not hiding pending tasks, taking orders correctly, not disappearing when there is work, respecting breaks, not leaving early, etc.

2) personal image and personal hygiene at work such as: keeping your nails manicured, not touching your nose, handwashing, eating properly, wearing a clean uniform, etc.

"This is an excellent tool to aid professionals teaching participants to analyse and properly react to situations that they can find in their day-to-day lives at work. It is a tool that helps us to lead group discussions, analysing different reactions seen (the app shows you three different reactions to choose from). These potential reactions and their consequences/ ramifications are discussed in groups. Without the app, a great deal of this learning would be very difficult to teach and to grasp, as it is quite abstract. The app helps us to see clear examples of situations and then talk about them. The app helps us to make these situations real to the participants, as they can see themselves reflected in the videos and the information resonates with them, consequently facilitating discussion and teaching these concepts. TaskCards

WHAT IS TaskCards?

TaskCards offers multiple digital boards and has a wide range of use cases. It can be used to store educational content that can be made available to clients in any place and at any time. Furthermore, it offers the possibility for remote teamwork, as well as individual work in classes, as well as for organisational topics.

EXAMPLES

1) Educational content can be stored and presented to clients. All types of content can be mixed, including text, videos, pictures, links or external tools. With an authoristion function, specific rights for reading and editing of content can be assigned to specific groups. That means, that you only have to provide one whiteboard, but you can share different links with – for example – more or less extensive difficulty. Or you can share one link, but activate content dynamically, when it is suitable.

2) To organise consultation days with job coaches, pedagogical assistants and clients, a board can be set up, where every time slot gets a different card. Further information like login data for video calls can be stored, as well.

"There are many more examples of how we use TaskCards in our organisation. We plan our collaborative teaching and collect ideas, we let participants work individually or collaboratively with TaskCards and we even started to think of creating portfolios. TaskCards is limited in it's functions, but that is precisely why it does what we want it to do."

Soy Cappaz

WHAT IS Soy Cappaz?

The Soy Cappaz app helps people with intellectual disabilities to learn how to better cope with daily life. This app enhances independence through example (pre-recorded videos). It is categorized into four categories: I need help – Where am I? – My Work and My Calendar.

EXAMPLES

This app is used to teach tasks that include various steps following a chronological order, as they are often difficult for our participants to remember, so this tool helps facilitate learning these steps. The participants learn independently by watching.

1) I NEED HELP- Helping the individual when travelling about. The steps taken to use the bus and arrive to work, for example. Each PID can have up to three caregivers on the app and if they need help or if they need to access any of these three caregivers, they can via the app. This is helpful when travelling in the city and the individual may get lost or change their route and they may have questions.

2) MY WORK- Dealing with his/ her daily tasks. We teach a concept such as how to use a washing machine, and then, through this app, the participant can try it again using a system consisting of self-created code bars that can be placed near the appliance (i.e.- a washing machine, or photocopier) the individual wants to use. By scanning the code, it automatically connects to the video created beforehand of how to use this appliance, so it creates cohesion and a connection between the previous learning and the present situation whilst enhancing independence. This is helpful, as the participant can use it as many times necessary until they feel they have learned the task.

"This app helps us in our work as it promotes our client’s independence through a visual, easy to use system. This app shifts the educator’s role to secondary, as the participant’s role becomes primary. It is especially helpful to us as educators teaching individuals who have difficulty reading, and difficulty remembering things."

Get to know Arkade-Pauline 13

Where we come from

Until the 70s and 80s of the last millennium, there was a great grievance in psychiatric care: Mentally ill people were excluded or led a socially marginalised life due to their limitations. The so-called “Psychiatry Inquiry” drew attention to this. It initiated a development aimed at raising the quality of treatment and rehabilitation of mentally ill people to a new level of quality. In the course of this, “aid associations” were founded and given the task of setting up appropriate services in the regions. These were to help those affected to live, live and work according to their possibilities and needs. The aim was that the people would no longer be on the margins but “in” society.
In the region, these were the Arkade e.V., the Pauline 13 and the Sprungbrett association.
At the beginning of the 1990s, these three associations joined forces to form the Arkade-Pauline 13. A little later, the Centre for Psychiatry in Weissenau joined as a fourth sponsor.
In 1994, Arkade-Pauline 13 gGmbH started with the specialist integration service (Integrationsfachdienst – IFD). The following year, the psychiatric day clinic in Friedrichshafen started operating. Since 2015, our most recent business division has been the vocational support services.
As of December 2022, the Arkade-Pauline 13 has a total of 91 employees. Of these, 43 employees work in the vocational support services, a further 26 employees are based in the psychiatric day clinic and 22 employees in the specialist integration service (IFD).

The work of the Integration Service (IFD)

The IFD basically plays a neutral advisory role on the subject of participation in working life. Its task is to advise and support people with disabilities and their employers on all issues relating to the respective employment or training relationship.
Another task of the IFD is to support people with disabilities in preparing for the general labour market. In addition, school leavers, also with disabilities, are supported in their transition to the general labour market. Individual ability, performance and interest profiles are drawn up in preparation for the general labour market. In addition, the aim is to secure long-term employment for people with disabilities and to advise employers who (want to) employ people with disabilities.

The work  of the Psychiatric Day Clinic

The Psychiatric Day Clinic treats people who are suffering from a psychiatric disorder. The treatment can be carried out on a part-time inpatient or outpatient basis. People can come when they need more treatment than outpatient therapy can provide. At the same time, these people do not have to be cared for “around the clock” and can spend the evenings and weekends in their familiar home environment.

The work of the Vocational Support Services

We have been advising and accompanying people with intensive support needs in their vocational integration for over 25 years. Our focus is on preparation and placement in work and training. To this end, we advise our participants holistically and in a target group-specific manner. Our team is characterised by a high level of professional competence and accompanies people with (multiple) placement barriers. We offer a wide range of measures for different target groups and with different goals as well as target attainment on the labour market. Our target group mainly includes young adults who are difficult to reach, older people who are able to work, people with disabilities and people with a migration background, some of whom are also traumatised.
In our daily work, we focus on the resources of diversity and special abilities. Our work includes sound knowledge of the necessary support options and individual qualification programmes. We need this in order to achieve a successful and sustainable integration into the general labour market together with our participants.
Over the many years of placing and supporting people with disabilities and/or limitations, we have been able to establish extensive networks in the region. We are connected to all relevant networks and community psychiatric associations in the districts. We are also in good contact with many employers in the area. This enables us to offer our participants the best possible services in the region in various cooperations and constellations.

Why we join BELVEDERE

In our work, we experience again and again how important it has become to keep up with the state of digital development. This affects not only our clients but also us as an institution and our staff. Digital progress is developing at breakneck speed and is finding its way into all areas of life. This poses challenges for many, whether private individuals or companies. Therefore, it is important to be close to the topic of digitalisation and to constantly develop oneself. In order to be able to support our clients in dealing with digital media, it is important for us as professionals to know which tools are available and how they can be used in our work. The better our knowledge of digital tools of all kinds, the better we can use them for ourselves and are also able to explain their use to our staff and clients. Through the work on BELVEDERE we have the possibility to test many different tools, to improve ourselves and to develop an offer for others with which it is possible to get an overview of suitable digital tools that can be used for their work.
In addition, BELVEDERE offers us an intensive exchange with organisations that do similar work to ours beyond the country’s borders. This generates new ideas and suggestions for our own further development. In addition, there is the possibility of networking with each other beyond the project, which can be valuable for everyone involved.
